About Mutaly
Hair care that listens before it talks
Mutaly is an evidence-based hair care platform. Our job is to make trichology — the science of hair and scalp — useful in everyday product decisions, without marketing fluff or guessing.
What we're doing
Most hair advice online is built around a single product line or a single influencer's experience. That's why people end up with shelves full of mismatched products and no clear plan.
Mutaly inverts that. We start with your hair — its type, porosity, scalp condition, damage history, and routine — then build a care plan around it. Products come last, not first.
How the algorithm works
The Mutaly quiz collects ~30 data points across 5 areas: hair type, scalp condition, hair characteristics (porosity, elasticity, density), current condition, and habits (chemical treatments, heat, water hardness).
From these inputs we derive three balance axes that drive every recommendation:
• Moisture balance — dry ↔ normal ↔ over-moisturized
• Lipid balance — stripped ↔ normal ↔ heavy / buildup
• Protein balance — overloaded ↔ normal ↔ deficient
Care steps (shampoo type, conditioner, masks, scalp peeling, leave-ins, heat protection) are matched to your specific imbalances. Premium product recommendations are filtered against your INCI compatibility, balance needs, and regional availability.
Editorial standards
No paid placements. No brand pays to be in Mutaly recommendations. Product picks are based on INCI composition, profile match, and price — not who wrote a check.
EU safety screening. Every recommended product is screened against EU Cosmetics Regulation. Products containing banned ingredients (Lilial, Lyral, MI/MCI in leave-on, Glyoxal, formaldehyde releasers, etc.) are excluded outright — even if they're popular.
INCI-first. We read ingredient lists, not marketing copy. "Natural" and "clean" claims don't replace what's actually in the bottle.
Mistakes are fixable. If you find a product on Mutaly that shouldn't be there, or content that's wrong, write to us.
